Rahm's Readers Take Challange (sic) Become Traslators (sic)

The Chicago Mayor's office in conjunction with the Chicago Public Library system is running a summer kids' book reading program.
Rahm's Readers don't need to know how to spell...

In deference to the hyper-PR conscious mayor, they're using the catchy term "Rahm's Readers" to describe participants in the CPL's summer learning challenge 2014 program.

A big sign in the Sulzer Regional Chicago Public Library urged kids to take the "challange (sic)" to become one of "Rahm's Readers."

Challenge was misspelled on the library's big sign (see photo above)

The hand crafted sign was obviously the work of some fine product of the CPS (affectionately referred to as the Chicago Public Sewer System) schools.

But hey, you don't have to really know how to properly spell English words to succeed in this dumbed-down multicultural and blissfully "diverse" city.

You can always just go to the First Western Tax Service on the 4500 block of North Western Ave. and get a job as a traslator doing Spanish/English "traslations(sic)." That's how it was painted on the sign in the window there (see photo below)
...they can always get jobs as Spanish/English "traslators"

The sign in the obviously Latino-owned shop seemed to have all the Spanish words spelled correctly. Just the "traslations" into English were a bit off.

For instance, Notario Publico became "Public Notary" rather than "Notary Public" in "traslation."

Oh, well, can it really matter? If the Chamber of Commerce cheap labor crony-capitalists and the left-wing Obamaites push through amnesty for illegal aliens, we'll all be communicating in crude hand gestures and pig-Espanol anyway.

Clarence Darrow's Commencement Speech at Senn High School

Senn High School on Chicago's North side at the corner of Ridge Ave. and Clark St. has been around since 1911.

Chicago's Senn High School

Apparently it's been a very funny place at one time or another, having produced kiddie show comic Shecky Greene, kiddie show puppeteer, Burr Tillstrom (creator of Kukla, Fran and Ollie), National Lampoon comic actor/director, Harold Ramis and TV and movie comic actor Harvey Korman.

Today it is supposedly trying to improve by adding magnet programs and in 2005 added a Naval military program.

But it is pretty much as big of a cesspool as most Chicago Public Schools today. A few years ago a girl was raped in a passageway there during school hours.

Anyway, the best oration ever likely given there was made by famed Chicago defense lawyer, Clarence Darrow at the 1918 Senn commencement ceremony.
Clarence Darrow, famed Chicago-based
criminal defense attorney and social gadfly

Darrow was apparently as prescient as he was brilliant.

After sitting on the stage listening to an hour or so of public school educators blather on and on about how their brilliant graduates must "go forth and serve," etc. etc -- yada, yada, yada -- he got up and uttered the following famous words to the 500 Senn graduates:

"Look -- let's you fellows down there relax now.

That was as fine a lot of bunk as I ever heard in my life, and I know darned well you youngsters didn't believe a word of it.

You're no more fit to "go forth and serve" than the man on the moon.

You're just a bunch of ignorant kids, full of the devil, and you've learned practically nothing to show for the four years you spent here.

You can't fool me, because I once spent four years in just such a place."

According to Irving Stone, author of the 1941 Darrow biography, Clarence Darrow for the Defense (Bantam Books, p.7) the parents were shocked, the Senn faculty was purple with rage but the kids were ecstatic.

They thought that Clarence Darrow's Senn High School commencement speech of 1918 was the only good sense they had heard in months.

Chicago Has A Public School Teacher Pulling Down $632K A Year

Yesterday, the U.S. Congress interrupted its summer recess to rush thru a $26 billion bailout for cash strapped state governments. According to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the measure was necessary to save some 160,000 teacher's jobs. President Obama immediately signed the bill into law.

But just why are state and local governments so incapable of meeting their teachers payroll?

Could it be because an astonishingly high number of area teachers are making more than 6 figures a year?

Chicago's grand champion for hauling down taxpayer's cash for a teaching job is one Timothy Bouman, a high school teacher at Noble St. Charter School in Chicago who boasts an annual salary of -- get this -- $632,000.

He is just one of literally hundreds of Chicago area teachers pulling down more than six figures a year for a job which takes up only 9 months of their time.

To look up the salary of a particular Chicago area public school teacher or to see all of the teacher's and school administrators salaries in your district, go to this site: Family Taxpayer's Network.

While perusing these gold plated salaries consider that the average income of the taxpayer who underwrites their salaries is $46,000 per year.

Congress' and Obama's bailout of their high salaried friends in the Teachers Unions reminds one of the old Monty Python skit about the reverse Robin Hood, Dennis Moore:

He steals from the poor
And Gives to the Rich
Dennis Moore, Dennis Moore
Dumb, Dumb, Dumb.

Mather HS Little Lobbyists Will Fight Homelessness To The Last Drop of ---- YOUR BLOOD!

In one of the famous 3 Stooges shorts, when the Stooges are confronted by a gang of scary outlaws, Moe gives a pep talk to Curly telling him, "We're going to fight to the last drop of --your blood."

As reported last week by the online Lake Effect News, a group of Mather High School students in something called the honors law program, were whipped up into a frenzy of concern over the plight of Chicago's homeless when they entertained a sob-story speaker from the Alinsky-styled leftist Chicago Coalition for the Homeless.

Concern for the less fortunate is a noble enough endeavor in this Christmas season, and I thought the Mather kids would announce that they would volunteer their time to, perhaps, clean up at a homeless shelter or maybe make sandwiches at a soup kitchen. How quaint of me to think so.

These sophisticates had much loftier notions.

They decided to show their deep personal compassion for the homeless by (I am not making this up) lobbying their State Representative for a 2% increase in the Illinois state income tax to help the homeless.

And so they did just that. They marched into the office of North side, Democrat State Rep. John D'Amico, told them of their deep love and empathy for the poor homeless wretches and demanded that he vote to wring out another 2% from the paychecks of working people in Illinois.

D'Amico gave the budding young Alinskys T-shirts, tote bags, a pat on the back and sent them on their way. He said he would not vote to increase taxes, a novel approach for a Democrat, to say the least.

No doubt, exhausted from this grueling foray into the world of compassionate advocacy, the members of the Mather HS Law Society then departed for their Winter Break, no doubt quite smug in the satisying thought that they had shown their deep care and concern.

But I hear that next semester this loving, kind-hearted troupe is going to tackle the problem of hunger -- by calling for a 3% increase in your income tax.

Blowhard Biden and Chicago's Laughable CPS Schools

I first met Senator Joe Biden in the early 90's, just after he had his new hair transplant plugs.

A pal of mine, Jonas, whose father was a leader of the Chicago Lithuanian Community worked with me on Capitol Hill then. Jonas worked for the old Chicago, crew-cutted, Polack, Congressman, Ed Derwinski.

At the time Lithuania was becoming the first of the Soviet-dominated slave states to unilaterally assert its independence from Gorbachev's grip, and Jonas was asked to go on CNN and argue the case for US recognition of Lithuanian freedom.

Taking the other side of the issue was the dissembling, hair-deprived, Delaware Democrat, Joe Biden.

I met Senator Biden in the CNN green room before the show, and he seemed an amiable enough dunce. This was just after he had been outed by the media for plagiarizing, verbatim, a speech by a fellow blowhard, British Socialist Labour candidate for PM, who ran a failed campaign against the great "Iron Lady," Conservative Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher.

Biden is now the liberal Democrat Vice-President of the United States. Obama's devoted running mate.

Thursday on the NBC Today Show, Blowhard Biden blurted out to Matt Bauer, that he would advise Americans to avoid subways, buses and air transport to avoid the contagion of the Mexican Swine flu.

Obama's equally blowhardian yahoo press secretary, Robert "Gomer" Gibbs, then told a laughing Washington press corps: "He really didn't mean to say that. What he meant to say was....."

The new Oberfurhrer of Homeland Security, Janet "Goebbels" Napolitano also offerred in " What he meant to say was....."

This brings to mind the old Mayor Richard J. Daley's old balding press secretary, Earl Bush. After one of hizzoner's almost daily malapropic, Yogi Berra-isms ("The Chicago Police aren't here to create disorder -- they're here to preserve disorder,") Bush would admonish the Chicago press corps to "Print what he means, not what he says."

This would evoke loud guffaws from the assembled liberal journalists and haughty derision from the liberal Chicago Lakeshore elite.

But all we hear from the liberal gaggle about Biden's, actually very dangerous statement is --- "well, that's just Joe being Joe."

Funny, I don't recall the liberal establishment giving that same, forgiving, benefit of the doubt to conservative Senator Trent Lott when he made eminently less socially dangerous comments at Senator Strom Thurmond's birthday party. They howled at Lott and hounded him from the Senate leadership.

What hypocrites these American leftists!

And what undiscerning quietude by the American sheeple.

But why not?

Today's Chicago Public School student is treated to a daily diet of propagandistic leftist goo. In their English classes, Shakespeare and Chaucer are disregarded as "Old white men." And frauds like Maya Angelou and bigots like Malcolm X are elevated to the status of great provenders of profundity.

For decades now, CPS students are taught how to put a condom on a cucumber, but aren't even vaguely exposed to the Greek and Latin classic literature -- the pinnacle of human expression and thought.

Maybe if they had been they would be more discerning in the face of bloviators like Biden.

Perhaps then, they might have been able to refer to the 4th century B.C. Hellenistic poet, Nicarchus who wrote:

"You certainly should have made a sign saying which was your mouth,
which your asshole.
Just now when you were gabbing, I thought you farted."

Wonder what the ancient Greek poet would have had to say about Obama's blowhard veep. Obama's press secretary, Obama's Homeland Security Czar and about the teflon Messiah, himself.

The more things change -- the more they stay the same.
