Flintstones Returning in 2013: Have a Winston!
Word is that a remake of the 1960s cartoon classic, The Flintstones, will be ready to air on FOX in 2013. The cartoon was originally based on Jackie Gleason's 50s TV sitcom, The Honeymooners, and you can easily see the resemblances between Fred and Gleason and Wilma and Audrey Meadows.
The FOX remake will be made by “Family Guy” creator Seth McFarlane.
I doubt he'll be able to work in Winston commercials as they did back in the 60s. See the astounding video below:

Oh my gosh! ROFL I watched the Flintstones every day when I was a kid! This is so funny! I don't recall cigarette ads but I may have just made the "no cigarette ads on TV" era. They still had them in magazines and billboards though.
ReplyDeleteThat guy is going to ruin the Flintstones. Why couldn't they leave well enough alone! whinewhinewhine ;)
I think TV ads must have gone out around '68 or so. I definitely remember some of the ad jingles. And how about the old candy cigarettes for kids with the red end of the white cig painted red so that it would look like you were smoking!
ReplyDeleteIt was like a burr under my saddle so I went to look it up. 1971. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tobacco_advertising#United_States So I surely saw them, I just don't recall them.
ReplyDeleteThose candy smokes? My husband and I found some about 5-6 years ago in a novelty type store. I finally tossed the box we bought as a memento a few months ago. :) It cracked us up because we remember only too well those ones we had in the 70s!
used to particularly like the chocolate candy cigarettes. As I recall, the candy cigarettes sometimes came in the actual pack with the logo of a real cigarette manufacturer like Marlboro.
